Signal
Signal is an advanced search tool that can be used for job search. For those new to Signal you must first go to LinkedIn Labs. They state: “LinkedIn Labs hosts a small set of projects and experimental features built by the employees of LinkedIn. We share them here as demonstrations and to solicit feedback, but please remember that they are intended to be low-maintenance experiments, and may be added and removed over time based on popularity and support.”
Scroll down until your find Signal.
Click on the application to install and you will now be able to access through your profile under the ‘News’ (second from right) pull down on your main navigation.
Open Signal and start your search. Here I picked ‘Marketing’ just as an example, while searching my entire Network without a preference for location.
The next step is to select ‘#jobs’ from the topics area. The Hashtag (#) denotes a topic within Twitter. You can also target a particular Industry.
The limiting factor in this is your search is relegated to only your Network, which may include all 1st, 2nd and 3rd level connections. This reinforces my preaching the benefits of expanding your Network as much as you can. As of this writing my Network had reached 10,000,000 of connections just today, July 1, 2011. It rolled back a little during the course of the day, but I then added at least two more 1st levels.
I continue to wish you good fortune in your job search. When you find a position, and you will if you are diligent, consider Pay It Forward to someone less fortunate.
Your comments, Likes, and Tweets are appreciated since it can spread the word of the work I am trying to do. I will answer your questions as well.
Michael
