Use Email Signature Lines or Blocks to Market Your Business – Zero Dollar Cost Marketing Tip

Zero Cost Market Tip - Email Signature LinesDo your everyday emails contain a signature line?  Email signatures are a powerful, zero cost marketing tool that can bring big rewards to your company when used correctly.  Use it to build a consistent brand identifier for your company.  Your signature line is as important as leaving a business card with a new acquaintance so make the most of it.

Your email signature line(s) or block is actually a small file that resides with your email host.  It automatically attaches to the bottom of each email you send and contains information about you.  The content of your signature line gives the recipient more information than what is merely available on your ‘from’ field.  It is an easy way  to let people know who you are, where you are located or what you do.  Typical information might include your company name, your job title or function, additional contact information (telephone, alternate email, etc.), Internet links , etc.

The block can also notify your recipient of special news.  It may allow them direct access to your web site with a single mouse click.  But keep in mind it is not a book so keep the length reasonable.  Just include basic contact information – remember less is more!

Also avoid some of these business no-no’s:

  • Quotations
  • Test or art pictures
  • Embedded backgrounds
  • Special graphics or fonts (people with plain text emails cannot see them)
  • Attached vCards (with or without your birthday included)

Any other additions or things to avoid you might add to this list?
