Committed and Curious Were Keywords Used at a Buffalo Grove Networkers Meeting
I heard and saw the words Committed and Curious used over and over again by Mark at at yesterday’s gathering. He used them as he gave his morning networking presentation during a semimonthly meeting of the BG Networkers Group. Mark emphasized these words and referred to them as successful traits to face to face networking.
His further explanations struck home with me in several ways and are equally applicable to successful marketing on the Web. Mark said you must realize that networking is a way of life and a long term commitment is required to become successful. He also emphasized needing to be curious about others, using listening skills and further exploration. These are required to see if there is a ‘fit’ or potential fit between parties. He used the words “it’s that simple” after discussing keeping in touch, follow up and expressing concern as well as his favorite networking slogan: “How can I help you?”
Mark was also describing traits needed to successfully market on the Web. In fact the Web is just an extended, gigantic electronic network. Making up that network are people, some pecking away at their keyboards as I do. And most of those people are as concerned about being successful as you and I are.
Please realize that getting up a Web site, is expensive, complicated and daunting. And, if you are on the Web to do business this is merely a small portion of your task. Publishing your site only places your brochure alongside the millions of other Web sites on the fast traveled digital highway. In this day and age that is not enough. You are no longer the innovator, you are now the laggard.
You must learn to digitally network and draw traffic to your site. Or you have to pay a professional or pay for Google or other advertising to attract those potential clients. Using free social media tools is networking on the Web. These tools are available to each and everyone of us but you have to understand how to use them. Why? So we can use our listening skills to keep in touch with our clients and prospects…so we can learn what they need and want from us…so we can both offer and supply various solutions to their problems. So we can truly differentiate ourselves and be of help to others. That’s what true networking is all about.
Even the use of the word ‘Keywords’ shows how Web jargon has infiltrated our culture and become part of the culture.

I was sorry to miss the meeting, but due to the foggy conditions. I felt it was not in my best interest to try and travel and get in an accident. I am so glad that you were able to comment on Mark’s presentation to the group. Very well done. Thanks

My pleasure…although there was some disagreement at the onset. Discourse, at most levels, of course is a good thing.
